Over the past few years no community has been harder hit by the foreclosure crisis in the Twin Cities than the Jordan and Hawthorne communities on the north side. The four square blocks of 31st Ave N. and 6th St N are said to be the epicenter of the crisis. Since 2006, fifty-four of the seventy-two parcels have been forclosed, boarded or torn down. It’s not uncommon to drive through North Minneapolis and see 4 or 5 out of 10 homes on a block boarded up. It’s quite amazing that over time the problem seems to continue to get worse. Although there are people out there like Johnny Northside who are doing all they can to bring life back to this community. I’ve taken a stroll through the neighborhood and taken some photos. Clearly, there are some beautiful homes here – they just need some love.
