Green Bay Packers Foundation
I felt the need to make a followup to my previous post. Today continued the downward spiral of what was once the greatest franchise in sports history. After an amazing 13-3 season with Brett Favre 2 years ago, leading the Green Bay Packers to their 1st NFC Championship game in 10 years, the Mike McCarthy/Ted Thompson show has gone on to a absolutely pathetic 10-14 record.
The Packers let a rookie quarterback making his first NFL start with a winless team who had no offensive coordinator at the start of the season(and a defensive coordinator we fired) absolutely put the knife into the franchise a little bit deeper. It doesn’t get any worse from here. Good thing the team got a chance to play the 4 worst teams in the league that after Week 9 have a combined win total of….4(ironic, i guess). Can you imagine how bad things would be if we actually had to compete with NFL caliber teams each week? I can’t.
When the Green Bay Packers were incorporated in 1923, the Articles of Incorporation stated that if the franchise was sold, all the funds remaining after payment of all the teams expenses, would be given to the Sullivan-Wallen Post of the American Legion to help build memorials for soldiers. This was however changed at a November 1997 Green Bay Packers shareholding meeting after a shareholder vote. The beneficiary was changed to the Green Bay Packers Foundation. Among the approximately $150,000 the group gives out each year to organizations throughout the state, is the Packers Scholarship Program. This program has in the past given out scholarships to potential students in associate degrees at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. I have a strong hunch the Green Bay Packers Foundation will likely have a lot more money on their hands in the near future. With that hunch, I offer you the information on how to submit applications to the foundation to be considered for a scholarship.
The foundation will start accepting applications after February 1, 2010. Submit your request in writing to the following address:
